"Max, pick out a bow!"

Happy Holidays Everyone!

We hope that all of you have been enjoying this wonderful holiday season! With Christmas less than 24 hours away, we here at Young and Chic knew that we absolutely had to do a festive post, and quote the Grinch in our title! Today's FASHION FIXATION du jour takes a look at cute holiday hairstyles tied up with a BOW!

We're sure that you all have had your Christmas outfits picked out for days now, but what should you do with your locks for this joyous occasion? We suggest saving some of that wrapping ribbon for yourself! Start with curling your hair: using a styling wand or curling iron (whichever way works for you). Then, pick up a small section of hair at the top of your head and gather it to the back to secure with a small elastic. Then, thread the ribbon (we used a 1" thick ivory satin ribbon, about 12" long) through the elastic once, wrap the ribbon around the entire elastic one time, and tie into a bow! Voila!
                                                            Y&C photo
To put your own creative spin on this, choose a different color (red or green perhaps??) or maybe try braiding a section of your hair to secure with a bow. Whatever way you choose, just make sure that your bow is tied tight to ensure that you don't lose that ribbon at some point throughout the night!

All of us here at Lifestyles of the Young and Chic wish you and yours a happy and healthy Holiday Season and New Year! We hope that you find someone special under the mistletoe, that Santa brings you everything on your wish list, that all 8 days of Hanukkah are magical, and that you are all successful in keeping any and all New Years Resolutions!

Stay Flawless and Fabulous!
Love,

We Love Our Fellow Bloggers!

Bonjour!

We hope you all had a lovely weekend! We are so excited for Thanksgiving and are sure it would be accurate to say that a lot of you out there could use a little R&R, good food, and good company. We sure could!

Before we get into today's post, we want to take this opportunity to say thank you to our fans: new and old. All of your recent support for Y&C is so sweet and we really appreciate it! Like all of you reading this right now, we LOVE fashion. We are so grateful to be able to share this passion with you.

Speaking of passion, today we would like to give a shout-out to our friend and talented up-and-coming writer Courtney Todd. She writes for our school newspaper and also takes advantage of any opportunity to talk fashion! (sound familiar??) She has a deep passion for writing and we here at LotYaC love her work!
I, Lyndsey, recently had the pleasure of sitting down and being interviewed by her. It was such a great experience and I want to thank her so much for her interest in my 'fashion thoughts'! I got the chance to talk about fashion and really express who I am as a (as Courtney put it) "Fashionista and Fashion Blogger". Check out her blog on wordpress as well as my interview with her!
Also, I've decided to incorporate an interesting accessory to one of my outfits this week, can you guess what it is??

**Style Spotlight** -- Victoria Beckham

Hello there readers of Young and Chic!  Hope you all had a fabulous weekend! We would like to thank all of our new followers on blogspot and Twitter and for liking us on Facebook!!  It's great to see that you all enjoy the blog!! But we need more! Please tell your friends about Young and Chic and if you haven't already, like us on Facebook and follow us @YoungandChic and here on our blog!!

We really don't know how it is  possible but we have been blogging for LotYaC for about 8 months now and somehow we have not yet paid homage to the subject of today's STYLE SPOTLIGHT. She is a fashionista who has been inspiring us for years. She has been known for her style since the beginning of her career as a member of one of the greatest (fact-not opinion) girl bands of all time!  More recently she has broken into the fashion scene as one of the most talented and stylish designers in the industry.  This mom/wife/pop-star/fashionista/designer/entrepreneur is one of our absolute favorite people in the fashion industry and pretty much life.  Have you guessed who this flawless and fabulous fashionista is yet??

Yupp! You guessed right! Today's STYLE SPOTLIGHT is shining on the one and only Victoria Beckham! When the Spice Girls hit the pop scene in the early 90's the one we all wanted to be was Posh.  We all wished we could pull of the "little black Gucci dress" and the brown bob that she wore so well, and admit it on many a Halloween we have all attempted to pull off the patented "Posh Look".

As her career continued and she moved from pop-star to fashion icon her style became a little more mature, a little more high fashion and a little more fabulous.  Roberto Cavalli, Dolce and Gabbana and Marc Jacobs are just a few of the designers that have made some major appearances in her wardrobe.  As time goes on Victoria seems to get more and more stylish with each pair of insanely high stilettos she puts on.

She finally made her entree into the fashion world as a designer creating her line of eyewear and denim called dVb. Following these lines she entered the world of high fashion and has created season after season of fabulous garments.  Her chic, flattering and feminine line is impressing the most elite critics in the business and has won the favor of many celebs including Eva Longoria and Demi Moore.

It's pretty obvious why Victoria Beckham is such an inspiration to us.  Not many women can balance four children (Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo and new baby Harper), a full career, fielding invitations to social events like the royal wedding, being an international celebrity and looking incredibly chic every step of the way.  And even fewer women can do it with the grace and-there is just no other word for it- Posh-ness that Victoria exhibits everyday.  We simply cannot wait to see what Posh has in store for us next!!  We are however completely positive that it will be flawless and fabulous!

Faux Real??

Hello Young and Chic people of the world! We hope you have been enjoying our flawless and fabulous tweets!! Please do not forget to follow us @YoungandChic and tell your friends too!!

So let's dive right into our FASHION FIXATION du jour, which (as you may have guessed from our title) is all about the faux fur vest! Here at Y&C, we are always inspired by Rachel Zoe. Zoe's mix of glamor with a 70s vibe is so Flawless and Fabulous. Our favorite part of her style, the faux fur. It was only a matter of time before we added it to our wardrobes.

As with any trend, there are many things to keep in mind when shopping for a fur vest. First, inspect the quality of the fur. Some are great and some are not. The ideal vests will have soft and tame fur rather than ratty, cheap, and unruly fur. Second, the style. Things to take into consideration: length, collar/sans collar, pockets, and color. All of these factors can be completely personalized to suit your perfect vest. Finally, it is time to consider the sad truth about fashion: price. Some brands, like BB Dakota, are modestly prices and are also great quality. If you are looking for a more upscale brand, look no further than Rachel Zoe's collection.

So definitely make sure to check out this trend!! You will be sure to turn heads! And in the words of Kurt on Glee tonight "I can't help but pull focus...sorry."

Lush Lashes

Hello all!! Sorry it took so long for a new post!!

Today, we're going to jump right into our FASHION FIXATION du jour, which is mascara!!  We know it's tough, you see the commercials and the adds in the magazines and you buy a ton of different mascaras hoping each one will be the one to finally make your lashes look like Adriana Lima's in the add you ripped out of your Teen Vogue. To a few lucky ladies, very rarely though, this actually works! You find your perfect mascara that gives you volume and length and doesn't leave huge clumps in your lashes.  But for the ones who didn't quite hit the the mascara jackpot we've got a few quick tips to help you on your way to perfect lashes.

First, depending on where you shop for your cosmetics for example drugstores like CVS or Walgreens or stores specifically for make-up like Sephora there are some really great brands for every budget!  If you are taking the more expensive path, the Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes mascara is amazing!! The ball shaped brush adds so much to your lashes by curling them and adding volume at the same time!!  Another great but more expensive mascara is DiorShow Mascara by Dior.  This amazing mascara gives you volume, length AND curls your lashes!!! Both of these mascaras are completely worth the slightly higher price tag!

But not to fear!! A smaller budget DEFINITELY does not mean smaller lashes!!!! Two ah-mazing mascaras used by none other than the ladies of LIFESTYLES OF THE YOUNG AND CHIC!! These two tried and true mascaras are Covergirl's LashBlast Luxe and Maybelline's Great Lash BIG Mascara.  Both of these mascaras leave little to be desired in the volume and length department!!

So when you go to try out your new mascara DO NOT FORGET your eyelash curler!! Without it your amazing mascara will not be able to do its best!! And if you're still not happy with your final result never forget about false eyelashes!! They are a bit more work but they are totally worth it and are an amazing wow-factor for a special night out!!

Lifestyle Goals

Happy Friday!!!! We are so excited that the weekend is finally here and we're sure you are too!!

Sometimes the fashion world can be a bit daunting. Especially...the prices. We are prime examples of fashionistas whose eyes are bigger than their wallets!! (wayyyyyy bigger) But nevertheless sometimes it's fun to dream a little bigger than your purse strings will allow.  We like to call these "Lifestyle Goals".  A lifestyle goal is something that once you are able to attain it for yourself you can definitely count it as an achievement.  Some examples of these would be a classic Burberry trench coat you would get yourself after a big promotion at work, or the new mirrored Ray-Bans you reward yourself with after you get your first job, or even an amazing pair of Tory Burch flats you get when you graduate high school!!  These little (or big ; ) ) gifts that you get yourself to mark an accomplishment make that achievement so much more special and will always remind you of your hard work.

One of our personal lifestyle goals is also our FASHION FIXATION du jour, the Chanel chain bag!!!  This bag is a perfect example of the iconic perfection that comes from the brilliant Karl Lagerfeld.  This purse is the perfect complement to any outfit and will NEVER (I repeat NEVERRRRR) go out of style.  This classic bag comes in many shapes, sizes, colors and styles, one for every fashionista out there.  And while its over $1000 price tag is definitely not for every fashionista out there, this is most DEFINITELY a splurge-worthy piece.

Here, fashion goddess (one of our biggest fashion role models) and huge fan of the Chanel chain bag, Lauren Conrad is seen sporting it in a pic caught by the paparazzi.  Lauren is not the only celebrity who dons her chain bag when hitting the town.  Blake Lively has recently become the inspiration for Blake Lively by Karl Lagerfeld which is a line of leather chain bags with the iconic Chanel symbol gracing the front.

What are some of your lifestyle goals?? Let us know by leaving a comment or posting on our facebook wall!!!

You Rock

Hi All!

Today's post is a little different from our past ones. While it is always important to put your best "fashion foot forward", it is just as important to couple that with your own unique style and confidence. Accordingly, our FASHION FIXATION du jour is wearing your personality proudly.

There is nothing like the feeling that you get when you slip into a fabulous outfit, complimented by near-perfect hair and makeup. You stand taller, smile wider, walk with a catwalk-ready strut, and hope that as many people as possible cross your path and get a glimpse of you. It is this feeling that one should always bring to each day. Confidence is contagious and is envied by all. You know a confident person when you see one.
No matter what factors were working against you in your day, look at yourself in the mirror and smile back at yourself with total assurance that you are wonderful. This attitude will help you have a more positive disposition and accomplish more in your day. While we cannot deny that we all have "those days"... there is no reason that we cannot bounce back and kick that day with a heavy dose of positivity and self-confidence.

Some wise and anonymous person once said: “Insecurity will always rent the space it occupies, but confidence will own the building, and any other room it steps in.”

Remember this always.

The Perfect Pair of Pumps

Hello young and chic readers!!

Ever have the perfect outfit and you just cannot find the perfect shoes to complement it.  Well, we have the answer.  Today's FASHION FIXATION du jour is the neutral pump.  This is a trend that has become very popular in the past few months.  Dresses, jeans, shorts, skirts, everything goes with these miracle shoes!! When searching for your perfect pair of pumps there are a few things we want you to keep in mind.

First the height, while we all know we want to wear amazing five inch pumps, they are not always the most practical for what we need them for.  Consider buying a pair that is a bit lower than the skyscraper heels you really want! It will probably be a better investment when you don't have to buy a pair of flip flops halfway into your night out! (been there--done that)

Another thing to keep in mind is the color of the shoe.  While they all appear to be neutral, certain colors go with certain skin toes better.  To avoid this issue it's probably a better idea to purchase shoes in a store instead of online so that you can try them on.

Some great places to start your search for the perfect pair of pumps are Steve MaddenPiperlime or a department store like Nordstrom or Bloomies.

We hope these tips help you find some great shoes!!!

As Light As A Feather

Happy (belated) Independence Day to all of our USA fans! We hope you enjoyed all of the fireworks!
Now, a red, white, and blue post would be too expected so instead, our FASHION FIXATION du jour is Feather Hair Extensions!

This new hair sensation is very popular right now. While it is a bit unusual, celebrities like Lucy Hale, Selena Gomez, and Hilary Duff have all tried this trend and have inspired others to "put a feather in their cap". This look can be bold or subtle. Whichever you choose, you'll be sure to amaze!

photos: courtesy of Google

Wondering where to get your feathers installed? Some accessory stores sell DIY (do-it-yourself) hair feather merchandise. Sephora is a great place to get them. Looking into having it done for you? Talk to your hair dresser, get online, or head into a surf shop along the beach like Alvin's Island (our experience). If you are interested in turning up the volume on your everyday 'do', then hop on the feather band wagon with us! Let us know what you think or share a picture of you and your feathers with us!

Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend

Hello there!! We hope you all had an amazing 4th of July!!

One of our favorite things to do in the summer is to take a day trip into New York and go to some of the greatest museums in the world.  You can have the chance to see some amazing exhibits! This past weekend we attended "Set in Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef and Arpels" at the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.  It was a phenomenal journey through the history of this iconic brand.

Each piece was more beautiful and delicate than the last.  Jewels from the twenties and forties all the way to the present and each one a complete masterpiece.  There were art-deco pieces dripping in diamonds and platinum.  There were purses threaded with thousands of pearls and adorned with gold accents.  To top it all off there were fabulous jewels worn by none other than Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas.

In their own display were some of the jewels worn by H.S.H. Princess Grace of Monaco.  The tiara she wore to her daughter's wedding, the necklace she received as an engagement gift and many other flawless pieces she wore throughout her life.

This was one of the most exquisite pieces in the collection. It is the Walska Brooch or Pendant.  It is adorned with gold, sapphires, emeralds and yellow and white diamonds.  It is also able to be transformed in many differents ways, removing or adding some of the pieces.

This was such an amazing exhibit and opportunity to see history through jewelry.  One day when you don't have any plans head to a great museum and check out some of their exhibits.  You will be amazed!!

Jewel of the Nile

Good Morning! We hope you're enjoying le matin! Today we have a big topic to cover so finish eating your Wheaties and drink those last sips of OJ because our FASHION FIXATION du jour is, Jewelry: the top 10 must haves!
We love jewelry. Bracelets, rings, necklaces, earrings, watches, everything. All of these pieces are essential to any fashionista's wardrobe due to the fabulous fact that they add personality and flare to any ensemble. Before presenting all of you with our list, there are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for your jewelry. Those things are color, size, practicality, personality, and cost.
Color: enough to add a pop but not too much that it is overbearing- a color that you can wear often and that goes with a lot- don't forget: silver or gold?
Size: too big is too much, it is usually easy to tell but think; if your necklace has bobbles and beads that are the sizes of golf balls, it may not be the most flattering piece.-small jewelry usually works, it is dainty, delicate, and pretty.
Practicality: jewelry should not be a "one hit wonder" (trendy and well-priced jewelry is an acceptable exception, however)
Personality: unique and eye-catching
Cost: if the jewelry is an investment piece, (one that you will own for more than 2 years and will be worn often) a higher price can be justified- if it is just an addition to your collection, keep a low price point in mind
**Now for the Top 10 Must Have Jewelry Items!**
1. Silver and Gold (necklaces, earrings: hoops and studs, bracelets, rings)
2. necklace with WHITE in it
3. bold statement necklace (should sit on the collar bone or should have dramatic length/design)
4. pearls: long strand of pearls, stud earrings, classic short strand (preppy-style)
5. long pendant necklaces (with color)
6. cocktail rings
7. bangles
8. cuff bracelet
9. watch
10. dangle earrings
Wondering where to find all of these fabulous pieces? Try looking in small 'unique boutiques' because they always have the best and most exclusive designs. J. Crew , American Eagle Outfitters , Forever 21 , Anthropologie , Urban Outfittersfrancesca's collections , and T.J.Maxx all have great jewelry options as well. You can go classic, preppy, boho, or glamorous with your accessories. Whatever you choose, remember to.....

Love. Hope. Courage.**

Hello to all of our young and chic followers!! We hope you all had a great weekend and we want to send you back to work in style with a new post!!

Sometimes in the summer we get so busy with barbecues, concerts and other fun things that we often forget the more important things in life.  Sometimes while we are shopping for the perfect summer sandal or checking out the new movie coming out, we loose sight of things that should be a priority.  Fashion usually gets a pretty bad reputation for being superficial and elitist but today's FASHION FIXATION du jour shows a side of the industry that many people do not usually see.

Lady Gaga.  Victoria Beckham.  Karl Lagerfeld.  Nicole Kidman.  Orlando Bloom.  Blake Lively. These are just a few of the celebrities (ten to be exact) who came together to design t-shirts to raise funds for disaster relief in Japan.  Japan Vogue, UNIQLO, GQ and SAVE JAPAN! are also all involved in making this project possible.  The t-shirts, each designed by one of these fabulous celebrities, has an inspiring message (**the title of this blog is Karl Lagerfeld's design) bringing hope and sending love to the thousands of people affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.  UNIQLO will donate the profit of approximately 100 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society through the sale of these T-shirts at its stores around the world, to back recovery efforts in notheastern Japan.

The t-shirts are about $20 and the money is going right to people who need it the most!! This is an amazing cause and one that is in great need of help!   Check out the t-shirts at http://www.uniqlo.com/ut/savejapan/us/ and see if you can help out!

"I got my toes in the water...."

Happy Summer!
Yes the Summer Solstice has come again! We hope you are as excited as we are to head outside and enjoy the sun, the beach, and time off from school! Speaking of the beach, it seems as though we have arrived at our FASHION FIXATION du jour, which is Beach Bag Essentials!

You know how the story goes: you plan this wonderful day at the beach, get all of your friends together, pile into a fully-stuffed car, and head to paradise! But, once you've arrived, you realize you've forgotten something absolutely crucial to fully enjoying your day by the water! Even if this has not been your experience, you may be concerned that it could one day. Well, fear not because we have the perfect list to ensure a fully-stocked beach bag!

1. Start with the actual bag itself. It should be a durable material like canvas or a water-resistant material. It should also zip at the top so as not to allow sand and other beach stuff inside. A good dimension to keep in mind would be 13"W x 13"H x 7 1/2"D, or larger. The two straps on the bag should be long enough to allow the bag to be carried easily on your shoulder. Check out L.L.Bean Tote Bags, Vera Bradley (check out their whole site, they have other great beach accessories!), and SCOUT. All have great bag options!
2. Flip Flops
3. Towel
4. Beach chair
5. Sunglasses
6. Sunscreen (SPF 30+ or Tanning oil ;) )
7. Change of clothes (don't forget the clothes that don't show)
8. Large t-shirt
9. cute cover-up (dress)
10. baseball hat or sun hat (fedora, floppy straw, or cowboy)
11. iPod
12. hair elastics, clips, headband, etc.
13. plastic baggies (to protect electronic items from the sand and sea)
14. books/magazines
15. camera
16. snacks (contained in a cooler perhaps??)
17. chapstick
18. water toys (beach ball, frisbee, kite, sponge balls, paddle ball, volley ball....)
19. WATER! and 'lots of it
20. you, your itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie-yellow-polka-dot bikini, and your smile
With a fully-loaded beach bag, you are ready to enjoy your day as a beach bum! Keep this list in mind this summer for whenever you want to go coastal!

**Style Spotlight**

Happy Father's Day!!! We hope you're having a nice relaxing Sunday and spending some quality time with your dads!!

In the summer when it's raining out and you can't head to the beach or go to a barbecue there is nothing better than putting on some comfy sweats and and watching a great old movie like Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffanys, A Streetcar Named Desire or, An Affair to Remember...just to name a few.  You're transported to a different time, when women wore dresses and pearls on a daily basis and men wore fedoras and suits.  Being fashion obsessed however, we do not just watch these movies for their fantastic plots and the chance to hear stars like Humphrey Bogart say amazing lines like "here's lookin' at you kid".  No, we also watch to see what fabulous garment Audrey Hepburn will step out of a cab in front of Tiffanys in.

When one hears the name Audrey Hepburn the words fashion icon immediately come to mind.  That is why we decided to shine the STYLE SPOTLIGHT on her.  Starring in films like Breakfast at Tiffanys, Sabrina, My Fair Lady, Funny Face, Charade, Roman Holiday and many more, she gained popularity for not only her acting talents but her unmatched ability to pull off a L.B.D (little black dress).  In fact, she is responsible for bringing the little black dress into the closets of women everywhere.  When she stepped out of that cab on fifth avenue in front of Tiffanys she created an image that will go down in history and a garment that will never go out of style.

We can also thank her for making things like flats and cropped black pants fashionable.  In films like Funny Face she showed the world that a woman could wear flats and cropped pants and still look stunning.  Many things we still wear today can be traced back to Audrey Hepburn donning them in one of her movies.

Audrey Hepburn will forever remain a fashion icon.  The epitome of style and grace and not to mention one of the single greatest actresses to ever hit Hollywood.  Next time you pick out your favorite little black dress that goes perfectly with every occasion, thank Audrey for making it a staple in your wardrobe.

So spend your Sunday watching a few cinematic classics, you won't be sorry you did!

The Wave Craze

Hey Chic People!

Sorry for this week's delay, but we're here now with a great post! One of the most popular hair trends right now is loose summer waves. Many complain that this look is too hard to attempt. However, our response to that is: au contraire. To help with these doubts, our FASHION FIXATION du jour is Wavy Hair.

Your "wonder waves" can be achieved in just a few simple steps:
1. Begin by brushing your hair and then parting it down the middle. This helps to keep an even amount of hair all throughout your head to make curling the hair easier. (don't forget to plug-in your 1" barrel curling iron)
2. It is time to take your iron to your hair. Using your 1" curling iron, curl the hair away from your face. The curl should be directed towards the back of the head rather than the face. Continue this until each strand has been curled.
TIP: If you have thick or very long hair, it may be helpful to divide your hair into sections to pin up to free up space.
3. After your entire head of hair is filled with curls, take a comb and run it through the curls to loosen them up. This will create a more natural and flowy look.
TIP: Instead of a comb, you could simply run your fingers through the curls.
4. To finish this look, spray a light-hold hairspray throughout the hair to keep your look together all day!

We hope you find these steps helpful! This is such a great summer look that is very easy to put together! We hope to have step-by-step pictures on our facebook page up for you soon!

Fun in the Sun-Dress

Hello!!

We hope your all having a great week!! This recent heat wave has presented some definite outfit issues.  Looking cute in 100 degree weather is not always such an easy feat.  Which brings us to our FASHION FIXATION du jour, sundresses!!!

The sundress is summer staple.  It is a perfect solution to extreme temperatures while still looking cute and cool. Patterns, bright colors and other adornments make these dresses the perfect summer outfit! When looking for a sundress for this season there are some things to keep in mind.  First is the style.  Some styles are more flattering on certain body types than others.  Try your choices on in the store before purchasing.  While sometimes annoying this is a very important part of shopping.  It allows you to see the garment you're purchasing from all angles (they usually have triple mirrors that help with this) and maybe even get some opinions from the friends you went shopping with!

Another important thing to remember when getting a sundress is the pattern.  Some loud, busy patterns do not always look great on everyone.  Once again, try it before you buy it!!! You will be happy you did! If you are looking for a dress you can wear over and over again to different types of places, we suggest a more subdued pattern, sometimes the best fashion statement is no fashion statement.  But when your going to a fun summer party or barbecue break out your florals and polka-dots!!!

Lastly please keep in mind the under-garments you are planning to wear with your dress.  A strapless dress means a strapless bra!!!  Don't ruin a completely ah-dorable dress by having your bra straps hanging out, pas jolie.

Some great places to pick up the perfect sundresses are J. CrewGAPBanana Republic and an amazing website Piperlime.  So pair your dress with some cute sandals (you can find great sandals on Piperlime or at Steve Madden) and some great jewelry and you are set for a perfect summer outing!!

Denim Days

Happy Monday!

We hope that you all had a great weekend and are ready to talk fashion! We're just going to jump right into today's FASHION FIXATION du jour which is jean jackets!

Jean jackets have been in the fashion world for so long. They are so classic and versatile. Stores such as GAP and J. Crew have had jean jackets on their racks forever and have helped to introduce many new ways to update and wear this key denim piece. For example, a perfect spring outfit could be your denim jacket and a cute plain or patterned sundress with fun sandals and jewelry. Or, a great pair of shorts and a blouse could also be topped off with a jean jacket. However, please avoid head-to-toe denim. To quote a friend, we do not want you wearing a "joutfit", a jean-outfit. Think Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards. Spears in a jean dress and Timberlake in a denim suit and hat... ya. A jean jacket should always be paired with an outfit that has fabrics other than denim. Florals and navy always look great. Your jacket should be fitted but should also allow room to layer pieces of clothing underneath it. A medium wash matches most articles of clothing. A light wash is great for summer; where as a dark wash is great in the fall. Embellishment was cute in the 90s, but is not so cute in 2011. Keep it simple because you are going to want to be able to wear this with a lot of your wardrobe.

We hope this insight into one of the most classic facets of the denim world is helpful. We want you to enjoy a stylish spring season!

Stay Flawless and Fabulous!

Summer Lovin'

Hello there!! We hope you're all having a great week!!

Memorial Day weekend is the official beginning of summer!!  Along with it comes...bathing suit season.  Yes, its finally here.  The reason we have all been killing ourselves at the gym and hitting the tanning salon.  Bathing suit season does bring about one positive thing though...a new reason to go SHOPPING (as if we needed one hehe) !!!

It also brings us to our FASHION FIXATION du jour, bathing suits!!!  It happens every year, we pull out our bathings suits that have not seen sunlight in about nine months and try them on and OH NO! it doesn't fit!! We don't want to believe it but the perfect suit that fit like a glove last year just doesn't quite make it this year.  This presents another problem...finding a new go to bathing suit for the season.  But not to worry we have some fantastic tips to make this process completely painless!

First, where to start your search? Department stores like NordstromsBloomiesMacys and Lord and Taylor are always a great choice.  They have a ton of options, all colors, all sizes, all styles and all age groups.  Some other companies that have great choices are Victoria's SecretJuicy Couture and Ralph Lauren.

When you get to the store the next most important thing is whether or not the suit is age or occasion appropriate.  We recommend always keeping the places you will be wearing this bathing suit in mind when shopping.  A super small bikini is not always the most appropriate or acceptable option.

Next you want to make sure the style is flattering and sensible.  The first thing to think about it tan lines!  If you have an event coming up where you are wearing a strapless dress PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not have huge tan lines pas jolie!!!!!!! Invest in a bandeau style suit that will keep those tan lines away so you aren't sorry later!  Another thing to keep in mind is metal accents on your bathing suits.  Some metal accoutrements can get really hot in the sun and actually burn you!! BE CAREFUL!!

The last thing to think about when shopping is color.  We all know the colors that are not the most flattering to our skin tones and that never holds truer than with our bathing suits.  Make sure the color looks good on you so you feel good about the suit! Your signature color is your signature for a reason!! STICK TO IT!!

With these tips you will be looking great on the beach or at the pool!! Don't forget your sunscreen and shades and head outside to catch some sun and surf! ENJOY!!

We're Back! And Just in Time for SUMMER!

Hello to all of you Young and Chic people out there!
It has been so long since our last post and we apologize. But life seemed to become very busy as we finished up this past semester. However, now that we have successfully completed finals and a fabulous year at school, we can give our full attention to our blog and all things fashion and style.

Since the summer season is upon us, our current obsession should be no surprise. Our FASHION FIXATION du jour is Color. But wait! We are not talking about pink, green, purple, etc. We are talking about brown, caramel, bronze, gold, mocha, and more! Yes, we are loving summer glows and we are talkin' tans.
There are a couple of ways to get tan and beautiful skin. Yes, tanning beds and spray tans are quick and easy, but they can be dangerous to your health and to your wallet. The fix? Gradual tanning lotions 'n potions as well as simply heading outdoors. A product such as Jergens Natural Glow is great for creating gradual and natural looking color to jump-start your summer skin. Just make sure that it is evenly distributed (streaking is not cute) and that you wash your hands after (orange fingers? maybe if you work for Willy Wonka!).

http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/jergens-natural-glow-firming-moisturizer--7.5-fl.-oz.-medium-tan
Nonetheless, because it is summer, the best results are natural. Sun bathing is a great way to achieve your ideal radiance; but use caution. Too much sun can be dangerous. We suggest an SPF of 15 or more for protection.
We hope these suggestions are helpful! It's summer! So slather on the sunscreen, find some cute shades and flip flops, and embrace the sun!

The Wedding of The Century

Cheerio!!

Did you miss us??  We have been overloaded with work lately so we haven't had the time to blog but we felt this was too important to miss out on!  We woke up at 3:45 (yes, 3:45 A.M.) to watch history in the making: The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  Pomp, tradition and fairytale were the three words on everyone's lips this week leading up to the wedding.  We want to share with you our thoughts on the entire affair!! But where to begin???

First our obvious FASHION FIXATION du jour is most definitely the dress.  Pure. Perfection.  That was all we could think of as, then Catherine Middleton, exited her hotel and got into the car that would take her and her father Michael, to Westminster Abbey.  All we could see through the windows was the beautiful lace bodice and the perfect veil, not to mention her gorgeous hairstyle (half up, half down and perfectly curled) and makeup (which she did herself!!!),  but that was more than enough for the 2 billion viewers of the nuptials to realize that she was the absolute embodiment of a princess.  She made her way to the venue smiling and waving demurely to the adoring crowds the entire way.  She finally arrived and the world was let in on the best kept secret of the past few months.  She stepped out of the car and we were instantly transported to Monaco in 1956 and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly's iconic lace wedding gown.  A vision in white silk and lace, Catherine made her way into the Abbey.  The dress was a perfectly tailored lace over a sweet-heart bodice which led into a full silk skirt accented with lace on the bottom of the skirt- a perfect silhouette.  The dress was also adorned with a cathedral train slightly over eight feet long.  Catherine was the embodiment of elegance, grace and class in this truly iconic gown.  The designer who created this masterpiece of a royal wedding dresses is Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton.  The perfection however did not stop with the dress. Her tiara was a vintage Cartier diamond tiara given to her by the Queen.

Catherine and her father made their way up the aisle to her prince.  Prince William who wore the Irish Guards uniform looked like a real-life Prince Charming.  The striking red jacket was adorned with medals and a blue sash and was complemented by the red stripe down the side of his black pants.

The Wedding was absolute perfection.  A completely emotional experience to all who watched.  The loving couple said their vows and left the Abbey to return to Buckingham Palace in the traditional carriages.  Beaming and waving they rode through the streets of London to the deafening cheers from the crowds.  When they arrived back at the palace they made their way onto the balcony to greet their public as the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  The world swooned as we watched the amazingly happy couple share not one but two history-making kisses.

This Royal Wedding definitely lived up to The Wedding of the Century!

We have soooooooo much more to come about the wedding!! Stay tuned for many more blogs about the fashion worn by the guests, the families and the wedding party!!!

La Mode Français

Happy Tuesday!

We hope you are having a great day!  We just got back from a presentation by the creator of Life Is Good.  He talked about his mission behind his brand which is OPTIMISM and spreading it to others.  His passion for this lifestyle is what drives his company.  We were incredibly inspired by all that he achieved without ever compromising the integrity or message of his original ideas.

Now onto our FASHION FIXATION du jour! As you can probably deduce by now--because of our almost obsessive use of it--we are very enthusiastic French students!  Last semester we had to (a.k.a.had the amazing opportunity to) create a presentation about a piece of French culture of our choosing.  Naturellement, we chose LA MODE DE PARIS!!  We focused on four staple French designers: Chanel-Karl Lagerfeld, Louis Vuitton-Marc Jacobs, Yves Saint-Laurent-Stefano Pilati and Christian Dior.  These fashion houses have become iconic and maintained their MAH-JOR (to quote Rachel Zoe <3)  reputations for a reason.  They have become synonymous with the words "french fashion" and the main events of Paris Fashion Week.

Since its inception,  Chanel has brought and inspired class and elegance (and a lot of black and white) to every woman's wardrobes.  The incomparable double "C" emblem is an image that evokes an almost religious experience in the hearts admirers of this fashion house. (Maybe thats a bit much--but come on its CHANEL!)
Louis Vuitton is yet another remarkable label.  Marc Jacobs uses the phrase <<Et Dieu créa la femme>> as inspiration for his designs.  This means "and God created the female."  He focuses totally on how the clothes should flatter the woman.  And in our book MARC JACOBS=GENIUS.

YSL and Dior are both definite necessities for the wardrobe of any respectable French fashionista. These   classic brands will forever be the foundation of French fashion.

**"Take pride in clothes that make a difference."

Hello there!

Hope you had a good Monday! Ours was very exciting. We just got back from attending a presentation about justice for garment workers. In honor of this, our FASHION FIXATION du jour is fashion that gives back to others. This cause is very important to us. We believe that fashion can serve a greater purpose than just being trendy. There are so many companies, organizations, and movements that exist solely for the purpose of creating merchandise that, when purchased, donates the proceeds to people around the world in need of money and clothing.
TOMS Their 'One For One' movement, created by Blake Mycoskie, donates shoes to a child in need of a pair with your purchase of  TOMS shoes.
Made With Love Made with Love In Brazil. In Africa, In Haiti: Mary Jane Marcasiano purchases women's crafts in poor communities and sells them to raise money to support women and children in poor communities. She also supports NGOs (non-governmental organizations). Made with Love in Africa works with the A.S.A.O. (Association du Sénégal de l'Afrique de l'Ouest) who created L'Empire des Enfants (an organization to help impoverished children in Dakar, Senegal) to help women and children in West Africa. The products on this site are beautiful handmade crafts such as jewelry and key chains.
Alta Gracia Apparel Alta Gracia is an athletic apparel company, sold on college campuses, that gives its workers fair wages and treatment that inevitably helps them to provide for their families which they were unable to do before. On campus, we were able to have a skype conversation with two of the people employed by Alta Gracia. They were very thankful for the opportunities that the company provided for them and were happy to share their information with the audience.
Japan Relief Effort Many fashion houses and companies have created limited edition merchandise to be sold to raise money to help after the recent disasters in Japan.
There are even more companies out there that have a mission similar to these and we absolutely love them. It is so important to recognize the power that you have, not only as an individual, but as a consumer as well. Knowing where your money is going to is invaluable. We hope that this post inspires you to involve yourself in these, as well as other, movements.

Bon soir!

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend! Our weekend was very busy and quite eventful. Now that we're nearing the end, we are feeling exhausted, so much so that creating this blog is taking about all we have left. But, fear not young and chic people because we still have enough for this post.
Our FASHION FIXATION du jour is eye masks. So slip into your comfy PJs, grab your teddy bear, and snuggle on your favorite pillow because we are about to tell you how to sleep in style! Even our heroes (Audrey Hepburn) donned their designer eye masks in such classics as Breakfast At Tiffany's. Whether its pink and fuzzy or black and sleek the eye mask serves two purposes: style and the magical ability to help you slip slowly into a peaceful slumber.

We hope your new sleep accessories help you to catch up on your beauty sleep!

"Let's Get Physical"

Happy Saturday!!! Today was a very lovely day!!  It started off with a quick breakfast before we headed over to watch a little tennis! Our athletic outing inspired us to go on the hunt for adorable work out attire.

So that leads us to our Fashion Fixation du jour... cute athletic apparel!!  Sweats tend to get a pretty bad rap.  Thanks to the 80's and Olivia Newton John's Let's Get Physical music video, visions of neon spandex, sweatbands and ankle-biter sweatpants come to mind when we think of gym-wear.  When going to the gym there is no need to dress like you're Sweatin' to the Oldies with Richard Simmons.  Athletic fashion has made great strides since this time however.  We now have great inventions such as yoga pants, athletic-fabric capris,  non-spandex shorts, and great racer-back tanks.

Some stores that we DEFINITELY recommend checking out before your next visit to the gym are:
1. PINK by Victoria's Secret
2.Lululemon Athletica
3. Sports Authority
4. Under Armour

These stores/companies can definitely run a little expensive but investing in good workout clothing is definitely worth it.  If your choices are more expensive than you wanted to spend, try to buy a good pair of black pants or shorts that will match with many different color tops.  Also, size is key!! Just because they are clothes to work out in does not mean they should be too big OR too small.  Properly fitted clothing can make all the difference to your work out.

Equipped with cute gym clothes and accessories you will definitely be motivated to hit the gym a little more often!! We hope these tips help you in your search for the perfect work-out apparel!!

"Girls just wanna have fun!"

Hi All!

TGIF! Hope you are all enjoying your Friday fun! I know we are, today we had a girl's night! Cute outfits, out to dinner, Fro-Yo, and a little bit of shopping! ;) Girls' Nights are always such wonderful excuses to shop, dress up, chit-chat, and have some amazing food! We highly suggest having these girly days often!

While pondering today's topic, we found the answer after chatting with a friend of ours!
Our FASHION FIXATION du jour is headbands! Our friend wants to know everything there is to know about how to wear and choose this accessory! As per usual... we have tips!
The essentials in your headband collection are black, white, brown, and tortoise. Along with these colors, add your favorites. Pinks are great and blue is too. Metallics are also necessary; silver and gold are perfect for this category! Headbands with embellishment are tricky. Rhinestones and glitter are fun but if there are too many, your head could end up looking like a disco ball... pas jolie. Flowers and bows are adorable. But again, size is key. Your pointer finger is a good way to measure an appropriate size. If the flower, bow, etc. is longer or wider than your pointer finger, it is too big! Thickness of the band itself depends as well. If the back of the headband is not touching your head, it is too thick. After this rule of thumb, you have a wide range of options. Skinny headbands are great, they are understated and are great for layering. Elastic headbands: cute, but sometimes they require maintenance. They are great for athletics as well as any other activity but they are known to slip off the back of head easily. Try to find some with a rubber lining on the inside to prevent loosing your headband!
Armed with this new insight, grab your straightener, start curling your hair, and prepare those locks for some intense accessorizing!
Good Luck!

"under my umbrella"

Hello there!
Today was a very interesting day. Between the rain and a mix of academic and social stress, it was a lot to juggle. But we're excited to be online today to blog about our FASHION FIXATION du jour which includes wellies and rainy day outfits!
With rainy weather comes the absolute necessity of rain boots. They go together perfectly. These rubber boots will keep you dry as you jump through puddles all day long! However, there are so many different colors, styles, patterns, and sizes and it can become overwhelming to find the perfect pair. If your one for designer labels, COACH and Burberry are wonderful options as well as Hunter Boots. I (Lyndsey) love my pair of grey Hunters; they are super tall, very comfy, and go with everything (which is so important). And for me (Jenn) COACH is my pair of choice. But, if you're not looking to spend too much, Target always has fun colors and patterns that will be sure to please.
When it comes to your outfit, think colors, layers, and waterproof. Even though it's grey outside, it doesn't mean that your outfit has to match! Incorporate fun colors with a scarf, fun headband, or t-shirt; or maybe your boots are already covered in happy hues. Along with these colors, add a cute sweater or jacket. To cover it all, put on a jacket equipped to shield you from the wet. Trench coats are classics and perfect for these days. But if you would prefer less of a look, try a simple coat (with a hood!) in your favorite color. To top it off, open up a big umbrella and prepare to strut your stuff in your chic and well-constructed outfit!
Hope you find these suggestions helpful!

"Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed!"

Hello again!!  Welcome to day two of our blog and what a day its been!!  We have done a bit of reconstructing on our page that we think you will enjoy! On that note...LIKE US ON FACEBOOK AND FOLLOW OUR BLOG!!!! Also read our about us to learn a little more...about us (hehe).

So our day started off (like most days) with our outfit choices.  We decided that in honor of our blog we would wear pink!!  Armed with a pink cardigan and string of pearls we went on to French class where we were asked en français to model our outfits.  Without hesitation we shared our style with anyone who would listen!  The rest of the day was spent in and out of classes and doing homework and such until we made a trip into town for Pinkberry!! The fro-yo of choice was pomegranate with strawberries and chocolate chips (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) <33 Then we ended up back in our dorm to blog and watch Julie and Julia and Legally Blonde (hence the title of this post).  As you can see we have had a pretty eventful day :)

So our FASHION FIXATION du jour is sunglasses!!!  Since today was the first hint of sun in quite a long while we decided to spend some much needed quality time with our shades.  We donned our Ray-Ban aviators and Marc by Marc Jacobs black sunnies and ventured outside.  Finding your perfect pair of shades can be hard work (but well worth it) so here are some tips:

Things to Consider When Searching for Sunnies
1. Face Shape- make sure your glasses flatter your face.  An oversized pair could swallow a small face while complementing a fuller face.  Some commonly flattering shapes are the classic wayfarer or a simple large rectangular frame.
2. Lens Color- black is always flattering and disguises the eye so when you're feeling a little mysterious or you just forgot your make-up that morning black is a great choice.  We also like dark grey or brown.
3. Frame Color-  when it comes to this focus on black, brown, tortoise, metal(for aviators) or a fun and funky color.  Depending on the style of frames the color can be a deal-breaker.
4. Utility-  if you're having a relaxing day an awesome pair of Ray-Bans or Marc by Marc Jacobs are always a hit.  But if you are doing something active a cheaper pair is probably a better option.  Some great stores for cheap but cute glasses are H&M, Forever 21 and Target.

Hope you enjoy our advice for picking out some great shades for spring and summer!
Stay Flawless and Fabulous!
