Commuting: the Young and Chic Way

Do you work out of town and have to commute into and home from work each day?  Do you dread the hour long rides in a, let's just say, less than glamorous setting?? Well fear not!!  In today's Whatever Wednesday we have some flawless and fabulous tips to make your journey a bit more endurable.

First thing's first: DO NOT FORGET HEADPHONES!!! Most of the time at 8:00 in the morning drowning out the conversations of the people around you is crucial.  (hint: keep an extra pair of headphones in your purse so you never have to worry about running out without them!) 

Next, make sure before you set out for the day to have some killer playlists to put you in a good mood for the start of your day.  Make sure it's upbeat music to start your day on a positive note!! (yes, pun completely intended)

1. Y&C blogger Jenn is going through a bit of a country phase this summer as you can see by this playlist entitled "Country Summer Songs Part II" (yes, there is a Part I and a Part III coming very soon! ;) ) And no country summer playlist would be complete without a little Luke Bryan, Pistol Annies, and of course Carrie Underwood!!

2. Here is a bit of a playlist from Y&C blogger Lyndsey! This is an awesome playlist that brings together great new songs with some oldies-but-goodies!! 

If the music just isn't enough to make the minutes go by on your way to work another great distraction is to buy a funny summer beach read on your e-reader or even your phone!!

3. One amazing summer read we DEFINITELY recommend is Andy Cohen's Most Talkative.  This book is a hilarious telling of great anecdotes from his life!!  It is a must-read and will instantly make you forget you're on your morning commute.

What better way to unwind after the Independence Day festivities than with a fashion-filled post? These sassy spots add the perfect amount of pop and whimsy to any outfit. Celebs, bloggers, and fashionistas have embraced this trend with "spot-on" perfection.

Pretty Pretty Peplums

Today's FASHION FIXATION du jour is a trend thats making a mah-jor comeback this season: The Peplum.  A peplum is a short, often ruffled or pleated, overskirt that is attached at the waist of dresses, skirts, tops or jackets. Though they have not been seen for some time peplums have been gracing the waistlines of fashionable women recently in record numbers. Everyone from royals to Real Housewives are rocking this spring statement.

A 21st Century take on the peplum is showing it on tops or jackets instead of simply skirts or dresses. This flattering addition is perfect for different body types and different styles! Also on a blouse or jacket it can be worn with jeans to dress it down a it for a more casual look.

Classic Americana

For this week's Flashback Friday, we are traveling way back in time. All the way back to July 4, 1776 to be exact. To refresh your memories, this was the day that America declared independence from Great Britain and also the day that the Declaration of Independence was adopted. From this day forward, America only continued to grow and strengthen. Over 200 years later, Americans continue to celebrate this occasion and show their American pride.

This summer has seen a lot of that American pride. American flags and red, white, and blue apparel has been a popular trend and we at LotYaC have "jumped on the bandwagon". In honor of the upcoming July 4th holiday, here are our favorite ways to embrace patriotic patterns!

Making a Comeback!

Hello Hello!

It has been far too long since we've posted to Lifestyles of the Young and Chic.  We have had a pretty intense year of school and whatnot so we have been a bit inconsistent with our blogging.  BUT since it is summer we are back and better than ever!!

We will be posting more frequently than ever before so make sure you keep checking back in!! LotYaC went GLAMPING!

Merry Monday!

What a gorgeous day it is. In fact, it's the perfect blogging weather! We at LotYaC cannot keep you guys waiting any longer. For those of you who follow our twitter page, (and if you don't, you should!) you may recall some frantic and exciting tweets from about two weeks ago... around the time of Fashion week... Well, we are now ready to give you guys the full scoop about our trip to Mercedes-Benz, New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center! Yes, we were cordially invited to attend an exclusive showing of the Tommy Hilfiger Collection where the theme was "Glamping" or, glamorous-camping. The clothes had a preppy, outdoorsy theme that showed vibrant colors and camo patterns. We absolutely loved the show and the fabulous pre-party so we want to give you guys a sneak peak of our night! Enjoy!

We were so happy to be apart of such an amazing event. New York Fashion Week is such a magical time. It displays shows by the biggest names in the industry and it presents an opportunity for all fashion-obsessed people (like us) to be apart of all the action. We cannot wait until next season!
